Model Engineering in Metric
Designs, information and updated drawings for traction engines, locomotives, stationary and marine engines in the smaller scales.
The aim of this site is an attempt to fill the gap that exists in the hobby.
To provide drawings for some of the older, smaller and sometimes simpler designs in an updated format.
The metric system of measurement is now the most widely used throughout the world, yet almost all of the older and popular model engineering designs are in imperial dimensions and they have never been updated to reflect changes in materials and techniques or to correct errors.
For a number of years people have been talking in the Model Engineering press about the fact that younger people are not being attracted to the hobby.
Possibly this could be partly due to the fact that models have been getting bigger and that the impression is being given that Model Engineering is all about producing a model built to exhibition winning standard that is perfect in every way.
Along with the attendant increase in material costs, time, and equipment required. Also the larger the model the greater the weight which presents other problems for many people not only when building but moving and transporting it when completed.
This is after all a hobby and as with any hobby you what you do is governed by the amount of time available, and your budget and the space available to you.
